Admired for the warmth and spirit of her sound, Lani King Chang is a passionate violinist and teacher who currently performs with various orchestral and chamber groups in the New York City area. Ms. Chang is a dedicated and conscientious teacher.  She has been on the violin faculty of the Hoff Barthelson Music School in Scarsdale, NY for the past twenty years, and the 92 St Y School of Music, NYC. She also currently teaches in Pelham, NY. 

 

A native of Seattle, Washington, Ms. Chang studied at San Francisco Conservatory of Music with Zaven Melikian and David Abel.  She went on for graduate studies at the New England Conservatory with Dorothy Delay. She has been a guest in numerous prestigious music festivals including Chamber Music West (San Francisco), Aspen (Colorado), and Norfolk (Yale School of Music).  Music has taken her around the world; she served as a guest concertmaster in the Taipei National Symphony, Taiwan, and performed with the Dartington International Festival Baroque Orchestra in the UK, and the Apollo Chamber Players in London.  Ms. Chang was a tenured member of the San Francisco Opera for seventeen years and has performed with the Boston Pops Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra of St. Lukes, and the American Ballet Theater.  She has won numerous prizes, including the Coleman National Chamber Music Competition Award.  Ms. Chang currently lives in New York City.
